Decenas de manifestantes expresaron su rechazo al inicio de actividades de exploración petrolera y/o de hidrocarburos en el país a través de populosa movilización en medio de la capital.
La actividad inició con una concentración en la Plaza de la Cultura seguida de la repartición de materiales informativos sobre las consecuencias y perjuicio para el ambiente que conlleva la explotación de hidrocarburos.
A la manifestación se sumó el legislador José María Villalta, reconocido por la defensa del ambiente, así como por el Presidente Legislativo y diputado del Partido Acción Ciudadana, Juan Carlos Mendoza.
La actriz Rocío Carranza, quien cada vez se distingue entre las luchas ambientales, convocó a la manifestación de hoy sábado a través de la red social Facebook, a la cual también se sumó un amplio frente de activistas por el ambiente que día con día aumenta en el país.
La manifestación se da en el marco de la posible firma del Poder Ejecutivo a un contrato que avala la exploración de gas y petróleo en una extensa área de la zona norte de Costa Rica.
La zona norte se ha convertido en un área codiciada por actividades industriales perjudiciales para el ambiente. Pocos meses atrás hubiese sido víctima de explotación de oro a cielo abierto, la cual fue detenida por una resolución del Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo y las fuertes movilizaciones en su contra.
La presidenta Chinchilla ha indicado que avalaría únicamente la explotación de gas, pero que según el ambientalista y catedrático universitario, Freddy Pacheco León, no se aleja de un inestimable daño al ambiente.
