La cifra de muertos a causa del brote de E. coli subió a 39 este jueves, luego que el Centro de Control de Enfermedades en Alemania reportatara una nueva vÃctima.
Sin embargo, el Instituto Robert Koch, dijo que el número de infecciones continúa bajando considerablemente.
Treinta y ocho personas han muerto en Alemania y una en Suecia desde que comenzó el brote, cuyo origen fue ubicado la semana pasada en germinados de una granja de verduras en el norte de Alemania.
El instituto dijo que el número de infecciones reportadas en Alemania es ahora de 3.304, incluyendo 786 personas que han desarrollado una complicación grave que puede derivar en insuficiencia renal.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud dice que más de 100 personas han sido infectadas en otros 13 paÃses europeos, Canadá y Estados Unidos. Mientras tanto el ministro de salud de Alemania advirtió que, aunque el brote está amainando, es posible que haya más muertes.
Las autoridades siguen recomendando que los consumidores no coman ningún germinado de verduras, mientras tratan de determinar cómo llegó la bacteria a la granja, si a través de los trabajadores, en semillas, o por agua contaminada.
